Guy Standing

Guy is an economist with a PhD from Cambridge, a Professorial Research Associate at SOAS, University of London, a Fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences and co-founder of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), an NGO active in 35 countries.

After a long career at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Guy held professorial posts at Bath and Monash universities before joining SOAS. He has also been a consultant to numerous governments and international agencies including the United Nations, the OECD, the European Commission and the World Bank.

His recent books include The Precariat: The New Dangerous Class (2011), translated into 19 languages; A Precariat Charter (2014), Basic Income – A Transformative Policy for India (2015), The Corruption of Capitalism: Why Rentiers Thrive and Work Does Not Pay (2016), and Basic Income: And How We Can to Make It Happen (A Pelican Introduction, 2017).
